More Information
The encryption method used by Advantage Online Banking is know as Secure Sockets Layer(SSL). A user can be assured that SSL technology is being used for Advantage Online Banking by looking for https: in the URL at the logon page and all other online banking web pages. If a web site is not using SSL, the URL will start with “http”. Furthermore, when SSL is used, a small lock symbol appears in the browser on the lower right corner.
The SSL protocol provides server authentication, data encryption, and message integrity. SSL also operates independently of the internet application protocols. With SSL implemented, your Internet communications are transmitted in encrypted form, ensuring privacy. That means even if the information you submit is somehow intercepted by a third party on its way to our servers, it is scrambled and virtually impossible to decode.
To use Advantage Online Banking, the browser must have SSL settings on. If you try to access Advantage Online Banking with SSL off, you will get an error message. Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers present different error messages. Generally, the Internet Explorer browser will present an error page “The page cannot be displayed” and Netscape will provide an error message advising SSL settings need to be put on with instructions on how to do so. Please also refer to “Changing SSL Settings”.
Advantage Online Banking also takes advantage of other security technology such as secure firewalls. Firewalls are used to prevent criminals from breaking into Advantage Online Banking and accessing data.
